Climate change in Zimbabwe

CRS works with communities in Beitbridge, Zimbabwe, to mitigate impacts of the drought. One way is to encourage communities to work with drought resistant animals and plants. The Aluwani group of Tshapfuche village, Beitbridge, works predominately with livestock but also has started to grow a large area of tomatoes and farm fish. The secret to raising their livestock during the drought is planting their own feed. In previous years, farmers lost their livestock when they were unable to afford feed, but when farmers plant their own they are able to keep their animals alive. This group in particular has planted bana grass, which is drought resistant. The grass could also become an additional income source if they have a surplus and sell it to other farmers.
